Bites & Brews, Rustic Fusion Restaurant From Shanghai, Opens In Singapore At Joo Chiat
The food scene in Singapore is more vibrant than ever with chains popping up one after another from Japan's Mashi No Mashi and Moss Cross Tokyo to Canada's Tim Hortons. Joining that line-up, and probably your to-go list too, is Shanghai chain restaurant Bites & Brews. Officially opening on 18 April, this new restaurant at Joo Chiat is the chain's first overseas outpost.

The 60-seater restaurant and bar takes on Bites & Brews' signature rustic style. Second-hand furniture, vintage-style decorative pieces and recycled woods create a homey, cottage-like aesthetic and a laid-back ambience.

On the menu is fusion cuisine with flavours from all around the world. Expect quirky dishes like Mapo Tofu Lasagna ($21) and the Midden Eastern-inspired Gold and Purple Hummus ($18).
Our recommendations include the Half Soy-Ginger Spring Chicken ($28) that's bursting with comforting flavours but with an unexpected pairing of barley risotto, wing beans and mushrooms.

Another highlight was the Middle-East-meets-Europe Shawarma Lamb Pizza ($28), available in the dinner menu. It comes with an aromatic mix of feta, peppers, onions and mint leaves along with lamb that's earthy but not gamey. All these toppings sit on top of a delightfully chewy and tangy sourdough bread base.

For something unique yet clean-tasting, go for the Spinach Tagliatelle ($25). This unique pasta is made in-house from spinach, and is cooked with butter sauce, pine nuts, garlic, cherry tomatoes, then topped with two shelled prawns and arugula.

If you're not feeling adventurous, there are also plenty of classic items to choose from like Philly Cheesesteak ($26). This hearty grilled cheese has beef, caramelised onion, mayo, cheddar and mozzarella between sourdough bread.

Complementing the food are drinks that are just as unusual and with the same international influences like the "Tom Yum" Coconut Drink ($12) and DRUNKMatchakra cocktail made with gin, raspberry jam and matcha.
Prefer something non-alcoholic? There are also Coffees ($4 - $8), Milkshakes ($15), Lemonades ($6 - $9, and the prettiest housemade Teas ($9) with creative blends.

Bites & Brew's food and drinks are decidedly experimental, and may be a hit or miss depending on your personal taste, but if you're in for an interesting meal and immaculate vibes, it's worth a try! Your best move is to bring a large group of friends so you can share and sample multiple dishes.
